Has The Toronto Bubble Finally, Popped?
Bring on the sunshine and our to-do-list for a winning design for your outdoor living space! Now that we’re seeing colourful tulips popping up and lawns slowly evolving from brown to green, it’s time we turn our attention to our outdoor living spaces. Whether you have a small condo balcony or large lot featuring a saltwater pool, these three quick tips and tricks from our Fox Marin Trend Watch will keep you both inspired and on top of your summertime game!
The lines have been blurred between what is indoor-only and what is permissible outside. And, this is why it’s never been easier to create an outdoor space that’s cohesive with your interior style and all around vibe.
It’s all part of our changing attitude towards outdoor design, where luxurious materials and finishes that were once seen as ‘indoor-only’ are steadily moving outdoors. We’re talking chandeliers, brass, rope, soft rugs, outdoor-safe velvets, linens and leather. All things that are a game changer to up your outdoor living space.
Grey continues to be popular, with the growing trend of “greige” — blends of grey and beige tones. Muted palettes blend seamlessly with the landscape and allow homeowners to use strategic pops of colour such as bright oranges, corals and emerald green. Lounge chairs, loveseats and bistro tables are trending this summer. You’ll see them in lightweight, powder-coated aluminum, showing up everywhere in black, white and grey.
We are currently seeing a significant move towards low-slung sofas and seating that are built for long, lazy afternoons outdoor. The look is all about comfort, with lots of cushions in contrasting patterns, textures and styles. Expect to see chunky timber sofa frames showcased more – particularly in teak. When paired with coffee tables and side tables, it’s hard to tell if they belong indoors or outdoors!
If you’re in the process of designing your outdoor living space, you’ll want to steer clear of these summertime fixings that are on their way out this year. This includes matching patio sets, barnwood dining tables and industrial metal chairs. Instead, introduce a textured ottoman or new aluminum dining chairs. This will give your outdoor living space a more curated, eclectic look!
