As one of Fox Marin’s Managing Partners and Sales Representatives, Kori Marin brings a vibrant energy and wealth of experience to our team. We asked her a few questions about her career and passion for design:
How long have you worked in Real Estate?
I have been in investing in real-estate for fourteen years. I purchased my first pre-construction condos when I was 26 or 27 years old, after working three jobs for years and years! I soon realized that real-estate was a much more dynamic business to be in than my corporate, account management job so I joined the whacky, crazy and wonderful world of Real Estate as a full time agent in 2013.
What do you love most about your job?
I love that I’m always learning. I know that it sounds cliche but it’s so very true. I’m never bored, I always feel challenged and I thrive off the fact that we’re always trying to progress toward something bigger and better. This is such a multi-fascinated business and we’re working to stretch ourselves in all areas; marketing, customer experience, reporting, branding, video, staging, pricing, outreach and long-lasting client relationships. Seeing that our business is changing and progressing at a such a rapid rate with the evolution (or even revolution) of technology, we have the privilege to be part of a new wave of contemporary Real Estate brokers that are adapting the core fundamentals from other successesful brands & services outside of Real Estate and bringing them into a new school Real Estate model.
Have you always had a passion for interior design & decor?
Not necessarily. But, I have always been super creative. Though I always performed well academically (thanks to sheer willpower), I was always more artitisically inclined. I studied dance, theatre, television, painting and special make-up effects. My intention was always to explore a more creative path but it’s amazing how quickly you realize that a few TV commercial gigs don’t really pay the bills. So, I think my passion for interior design has evolved as an extension of our business meeting my creative self! And, I love that – what an amazing gift to be able to work in a business that challenges the left and right side of my brain and that is truly congrugrent with who I am!
How did you learn to stag houses so well?
You know when they say “practice makes perfect” – we’re still practicing. Literally, learning on the job each and every listing. And, whoah, we have evolved a lot of over the years. I really analyze our listing photographs and monitor what worked and didn’t work in each and every angle. I think the biggest learning has been, that less is really more. Simplicity is an art within itself and that is why I love Scandinavian designers and architects as they have mastered this very skillful look to perfection!
What do you love most about Toronto?
I love that Toronto gives you permission to be who you want to be – and that indivduality is celebrated here. I honestly feel like we’re so fortunate to be living in this city – in this very time and space. The city is booming and we get to be a part of that in our own, small way!
What neighbourhood is your favourite, and why?
St. Lawrence Market, hands down! It’s been my favourite neighbourhood since I was a kid. I love the architecture, the mid-rise buildings, the restaurants, theatres and the old Toronto vibe. It never feels touristy, it feels more local and organic. I adore neighbourhoods that are walkable. You don’t need a car there to get groceries at the market, pick up a bottle of Italian wine, score an Espresso or pop over to the Canadian Stage Company to take in a show. Gosh, I even like Rainbow Theatre! I think it’s an amazing community within the city. Now, I just need to convince Ralph to move there and we’re good to go!
